Every school year, Dr. Smith participates in Dental Health Week at local schools. This past spring, Dr. Smith performed dental health screens on every kindergarten child at Lago Vista Elementary. This was a great opportunity to identify potential dental problems early. Each child went home with a written report from Dr. Smith, along with an informative handout on dental health, eating habits, and brushing. Dr. Smith and the team had a great time with the kids at LVE.

                  Relay For Life of Cedar Park and Leander 2009
Dr. Smith, his office team, and family are proud sponsors and participants for Relay for Life Cedar Park/Leander.  On May 29, 2009 our team took turns walking around the track at Running Brushy Middle School for a total of twelve hours. The concept is that cancer never sleeps. Thanks to everyone that signed up for track times in the receiption area! It was great to get together for a great cause! The goal to raise $48,000 was met, despite the strugging economy! This spring, Dr. Smith also donated his services at the Texas Mission of Mercy in Williamson County. This is a large multi-day dental mission that brings hundreds of dentists, dental professionals and other volunteers from across Texas together. Their goal is to relieve immediate pain and restore smiles. Texas Mission of Mercy has treated a total of 11,048 patients, providing $3,802,445 in charitable dental services. Dr. Smith contributes to Capturing Kids’ Hearts through the Journey Foundation yearly. This program provides financial support for Leander ISD teachers to attend a 3 day motivational seminar course every summer. Dr. Smith believes the core of the community begins with the children and teachers make differences every day in the lives of our kids. COMMUNITY EDUCATION!
As a member of the Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce, our team will be participating in the Chamber of Commerce EXPO—another great opportunity to educate the community about dental health! Dr. Smith prepares fun “experiments” that represent plaque and the potential for tooth decay. It is also a great opportunity for parents to learn the long-term benefits of orthodontics; not only for aesthetics (looking better), but also for achieving optimal bites (preventing jaw problems later) and other adverse effects caused by malalignment of teeth.
